Dr. Geoff Williams and Dr. Madelaine Plourde appointed joint leads for the Endoscopy service in Central Zone

We are pleased to announcement the appointment of Dr. Geoff Williams and Dr. Madelaine Plourde as joint leads for the Endoscopy service in Central Zone effective immediately.

Dr. Geoff Williams is an Associate Professor in the Division of Digestive Health and Endoscopy. He completed his MD at Memorial University in 2002, followed by residency training in Internal Medicine and then Gastroenterology at Dalhousie. This was followed by a fellowship in Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy at the University of Calgary, before returning to Dalhousie to join the Department of Medicine. His primary clinical focus are in therapeutic endoscopy and pancreaticobiliary disease, including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), as well as medical education administration. He has received multiple awards for excellence in education at undergraduate, postgraduate and national level, and was the Doctors Nova Scotia Patient’s Choice award recipient in 2017. He has a broad array of leadership roles including:  Director of EUS program; Chair of the Department of Medicine Promotions committee; Co-chair of the International Medical Graduates committee; Assistant Dean of PGME; Chair of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology Residents in Training committee; Chair of the PGME Continuous Quality Improvement committee; Chair of the Division of Digestive Health Promotions committee and member of the Royal College Examination board. A father of three, he was also voted “World’s Best Dad”, however, there may have been bias in the voting.

Dr. Madelaine Plourde received her medical degree from the University of Ottawa.  She did training at Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine in general surgery.  She also trained at Western University in thoracic surgery.  She also has a master’s in science in Clinical Epidemiology from McMaster University.

Dr. Plourde has worked as a Thoracic Surgeon since 2012 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022.  She is also the division head of the division of thoracic surgery since 2012. She is the Vice Chair of the Thoracic Surgery Specialty Committee for the Royal College and Chair of the EDIA committee for the Canadian Association of Thoracic Surgery. 

Dr. Plourde completed the Physician Leadership Program from DNS/CMA and the Healthcare Financial Management program for Leaders in Academic Health Centers from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health
