We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Stephanie Scott as the new Division Head for Gynecology Oncology within the Central Zone.
Dr. Stephanie Scott is originally from Burlington Ontario and completed medical school and residency training at Western University in London Ontario in 2013. She subsequently completed a Royal College fellowship in gynaecologic oncology at University of British Columbia in 2015.
She joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Dalhousie in 2015 and completed her MSc in Health Professions Education from Maastricht University in 2020. She was promoted to Associate Professor at Dalhousie University in 2022.
She is dedicated to medical education and was the inaugural recipient of the Standing Ovation award for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for her contribution to resident education. She continues as the surgical skills and simulation coordinator for gynecology within the Dalhousie Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program and has led the redesign of its lab based surgical curriculum. She has served on the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons nucleus and examination committees for Gynecologic Oncology since 2018.
Dr. Scott was the first surgeon to perform robotic surgery for gynecologic cancer in Atlantic Canada. She has 19 peer-reviewed journal articles and together with local and national collaborators has obtained over 1.7 million dollars in research funding to improve outcomes for patients with Ovarian cancer.
Dr. Scott has a busy home life with her husband and three children. She is currently training for the valley harvest marathon in the fall after finishing her first marathon in April (Bluenose) in 4:01:57.
