OPOR Implementation Timeline

OPOR has completed a realignment exercise to ensure that the Clinical Information System (CIS) go-live timeline optimally reflects the lessons learned throughout the design process while minimizing the clinical impact of hybrid workflows.

IWK Health will now be the primary site for Go-Live Wave One for the new OPOR-CIS in the summer of 2025. As a consolidated provincial healthcare organization on a unique record system, IWK Health is in a strong position to transition to the CIS. This will reduce disruptions to workflows, and ultimately patient care, and provide an opportunity to learn from the experience with a provincial scope implementation.

Nova Scotia Health will begin implementation with Dartmouth General Hospital and its closest related facilities as the primary sites for Go-Live Wave Two in fall 2025. The overall implementation schedule has been reduced to six go-lives from seven, and the final delivery timeline has been only slightly adjusted.

The implementation timeline and go-live sequencing will be as follows:

  • Go-Live Wave One: IWK Health (provincial implementation) – Summer 2025
  • Go-Live Wave Two: Dartmouth General Hospital, Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital, Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital, Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, East Coast Forensic Hospital, Nova Scotia Hospital, and Central Zone Lab and Radiology  – Fall 2025
  • Go-Live Wave Three: QEII, Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre, Cobequid Community Health Centre, Bayers Lake Community Outpatient Centre, Hants Community Hospital, and remaining Central Zone sites – Winter 2026
  • Go-Live Wave Four: Eastern Zone – Spring 2026
  • Go-Live Wave Five: Western Zone – Summer 2026
  • Go-Live Wave Six: Northern Zone – Fall 2026

These changes, including consolidating the Central Zone go-live dates from three to two, will minimize disruption to operations and patient care with fewer periods of transition.

Visit the OPOR website for the latest information on the OPOR-CIS implementation schedule.

The OPOR Program is grateful for the enthusiasm and engagement by so many in the healthcare community across the province. We look forward to continuing our work with you on this exciting transformation!
