Dr. Darcy Bishop was born and raised in Calgary, AB, and after one year at the University of Calgary, he felt the urge to see more of the country. Over the next decade, he would spend time in BC (twice), ON, and NS before returning to Calgary for medical school. During those intervening years, he eventually completed an undergraduate and subsequent Master's degree at the University of Guelph, tried his hand at teaching high school chemistry, studied Traditional Chinese Medicine, and got involved in cancer research.
He completed his residency training in Halifax and secured a job at Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville in 2013. Dr. Bishop took over the Anesthesia Site Lead position at VRH just over three years ago. That experience laid the foundation for his next step, representing anesthesia at the Western Zone level. He believes his diverse background allows him to bring a breadth of perspective to this role.
Outside of work, Dr. Bishop, his wife Devon, and their three active children are kept busy alongside a dog and two cats. They enjoy spending as much time as possible outdoors in their little corner of NS.
