Dr. Caroline Giffen

Hospitalist Medicine

Dr. Caroline Giffen was born and raised French Acadian in the small town of Memramcook, New Brunswick. A native French speaker, she completed her pre-medical studies at the Université de Moncton, earned her medical degree through the Université de Sherbrooke's Moncton Campus, and completed a Family Medicine residency at the UMF Moncton. She moved to Nova Scotia to be closer to her partner and has worked at Nova Scotia Health as a full-time Hospitalist since 2020. In 2021, she became the Site Lead Hospitalist at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre (CEHHC) and, on July 1, 2026, she began a new role as Department Head of Hospitalist Medicine for the Northern Zone.

Dr. Giffen is passionate about innovation and quality improvement initiatives within hospital medicine. As a physician leader, she is inspired by opportunities to strengthen Nova Scotia Health’s hospitalist program, foster collaboration, and build a more robust and efficient healthcare system that benefits both patients and care teams. She is currently involved in PA Pilot Program, SAFER-F, PACE, Physician Assistant Student teaching program and Dalhousie University medical school teaching program.

Outside of work, Dr. Giffen enjoys staying active through running and Pilates. She also loves spending time on Shortts Lake with my her two Shiba Inus, who keep life fun and full of energy.
