Dr. Andrew Harris is the Clinical Lead for the QE2 Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Services (CLPS), and he is the Provincial Senior Medical Director for Mental Health and Addictions (MH&A) Program in Nova Scotia.
Dr. Harris was born in London, United Kingdom. He came to Canada in his early twenties and moved to Nova Scotia with his wife who is an obstetrician gynecologist. He completed his PhD, medical school, and residency training in Psychiatry at Dalhousie University.
Dr. Harris finds great satisfaction and fulfillment in his healthcare career, both at the strategic level and on the clinical level. At the strategic level, Dr. Harris values the opportunity to make a significant impact by optimizing resources and maximizing the number of people he can help within a given hour of work. On the clinical level, as a medical psychiatrist, Dr. Harris finds deep fulfillment in providing psychiatric support to patients. Collaborating with medical and surgical physicians allows him to work in a multidisciplinary approach, particularly when it comes to brain diseases, such as cancer.
In his spare time, Dr. Harris appreciates the opportunity to engage in physical work and activities outside of medicine. As a medical professional, his work primarily involves using his intellectual and cognitive abilities to diagnose, treat, and care for patients. Working with his hands provides a welcome contrast to his medical practice. He particularly enjoys the process of building vehicles from scratch, such as his own car named Cobra.
