Dr. Aaron Smith is currently the Medical Executive Director of Northern Zone, working effectively within dyad leadership model with VP operations in the Northern Zone and works as a hospitalist at multiple sites.
Dr. Smith grew up in Pictou County and attended Mount Allison University (BSc Biology) and then Dalhousie University for graduate studies in Community Health and Epidemiology and medical school. He returned to Pictou County in 2008, after completing two years of family medicine residency in Fredericton, New Brunswick and practiced Family Medicine with the Westville Medical Centre from 2008-2021. Over the years, he has been heavily involved with medical learners most recently serving as panel member and resident research coordinator for the North Nova Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Smith also completed the Physician Leadership Development Program in 2018. Moreover, he now applies LEADS framework in alignment with NSHA strategic imperatives to oversee medical department activities, quality and utilization management, physician performance management, and strategi implementation of NSHA policy and principles. More recently Dr. Smith has been awarded the Canadian Certified Medical Executive credential through the Canadian Society of Physician Leaders.
Dr. Smith resides in King’s Head, Pictou County with his wife, Jaime and three sons. Dr. Smith enjoys all the benefits and balance of working and raising his family in the Northern Zone
