Dr. Helmut Hollenhorst, MD, BRMC, FRCPC, is a practicing Radiation Oncologist and an Associate Professor of the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University at the QEII Cancer Center in Halifax. He has been the director of clinical operations and founding executive member of the Dalhousie Department of Radiation Oncology with a focus on quality and patient safety across three provinces and four departments.
He has been involved in training and education, clinical administration as well as research and innovation and organized workshops and national and internationally teaching events on Quality and Patient Safety, Advanced Radiation Therapy Technology and Program Development in Cancer Care.
In 2017, Dr. Hollenhorst was appointed medical director for Cancer System Integration/Policy and Planning, with the NSH Provincial Cancer Care Program.
On January 1st, 2021, Dr. Hollenhorst joined Margaret Ann Morrison, Senior Director NSH Cancer Care Program as the Senior Medical Director NSH Cancer Care Program, and serves nationally on the CAPCA Board of Directors, CPAC, CCRA and CCS. Dr. Hollenhorst shares a passion for improving equitable, timely access to high quality cancer care, along the entire trajectory of cancer from prevention, diagnosis, treatment to survivorship. He is leading a team of experts committed to the NSH Cancer Care Transformation outlined in the programs Cancer Control Strategy 2021 – 2026 and the Nova Scotia government’s Action for Health Plan.
