Dr. Roop Conyers is the Site Medical Lead for the Annapolis Community Health Center and Family Physician at Annapolis Collaborative Practice. In addition to his primary care role, he works in urgent care at the Urgent Treatment Center at the Annapolis Community Health Center. He is also the postgraduate Site Director of the Department of Family Medicine and the primary preceptor for Family Medicine residents at Dalhousie University.
Dr. Conyers was born in Port Mourant, Guyana. He obtained his PhD (Pharmacology/Physiology) at McMaster University before completing medical school at the University of Toronto. After two years of a general surgery residency and five years of a urology residency, he completed a family medicine residency at McMaster’s Kitchener-Waterloo site. He learned about Nova Scotia during his urological training and visited the Valley Regional Hospital as a possible location for practice. inquiring about urological positions. During that time, he met his wife who is from Nova Scotia, and they eventually settled in Annapolis Royal in 2007 to raise their family, including a son, a daughter and a variety of farm animals.
Dr. Conyers enjoys working in various settings, including office practice, procedure clinic, acute care, medical education, and administration/leadership roles. Working with a group of like-minded colleagues and supportive staff is an important aspect of Dr. Conyers' professional life. He values the collaborative and uplifting environment created by his colleagues and staff members.
During his spare time, Dr. Conyers finds enjoyment in woodworking, particularly in creating furniture from locally milled lumber. He also indulges in gardening, where he cultivates a variety of hot peppers for his own supply of hot sauces. Additionally, he also enjoys building remote control planes and drones and looks forward to more time for successful flights.
