The Diabetes Care Program of Nova Scotia (DCPNS) manages the province’s diabetes registry, a comprehensive system with records for all patients referred to the province’s 37 Diabetes Centres. This includes demographic data, diabetes type, diagnosis dates, treatment, and clinical indicators.

2022 REGISTRY DATA

  • Over 130,000 individuals (all diabetes types) and nearly 1 million visit records.
  • Includes 100% of pediatric patients and ~60-65% of adult cases.
  • Increases by about 3,600 new patients annually and 45,000 visits annually.
  • Real-time reports support health planning and quality improvement locally, regionally, and provincially.
  • Supports local, national, and international research.
  • Evolves to align with clinical practice guidelines and advances in diabetes technology.
  • Web-based, centralized application allows for shared care across sites.
